Our mission

Zipping the threads of heritage.

ZIP Citizenship brings together lawyers, genealogists, translators and consultants under one roof — so your journey back to your Slovak roots is handled with expertise, care, and a personal touch.

Why we built ZIP Citizenship as a full-service team

Getting Slovak citizenship by descent touches three very different worlds: genealogy, law, and heritage. Sometimes it even involves detective work! Most firms handle only one of these aspects — leaving you to coordinate the rest yourself.

Genealogy
Law
Heritage

We built ZIP Citizenship differently. From the start, we brought together an experienced genealogist with over a decade of archive research in Slovakia, qualified lawyers specialising in citizenship law, certified translators, and dedicated consultants who keep your case on track every step of the way. Any legal services, such as legal assessments, and representation of our clients, are provided by a law firm, and all non-legal services, such as genealogy, research, translation, and document hunting, by the heritage consultancy. The result is a team that speaks to each other — not a group of individual specialists you have to manage yourself.

St Elisabeth Cathedral, Košice
Our main team is based in the city of Košice, Eastern Slovakia.

A journey back to your roots.

And throughout the process, we try to make it feel like what it really is — a journey back to your roots. We drop cultural breadcrumbs along the way: stories from Slovakia, traditions your ancestors carried with them, a glimpse of the villages they left behind. Because we believe that reconnecting with your citizenship and reconnecting with your heritage are the same thing.

Who we work with

Genealogists

ZIP Team closely collaborates with a group of experienced genealogists from Slovakia, United States and other countries. Some of us are members of the Czechoslovak Genealogical Society International. For instance, we collaborate with Michal Rázus, an experienced genealogist who has been helping clients with finding their ancestors for over a decade.

Translators

ZIP Citizenship works closely with a group of swift and experienced translators, such as Michal Orosz, who have translated thousands of pages of documents specifically for the Slovak citizenship process. All our translators are a fully registered with the Ministry of Justice.

While you wait, travel back in time

‘Babka Approved’

While our team digs through the archives for your ancestors’ records, why not listen to the sound of your ancestors? We’ve curated the ‘Babka Approved’ playlist on Spotify — a mix of the folk songs she hummed in the kitchen and the modern hits she’d definitely call ‘too loud.’

Company

The legal services are provided by Martin Husovec – Counsel, s.r.o., a law firm, and all the remaining non-legal services by Zip Citizenship, s.r.o., a company registered with the Košice City Court. The team is based in Košice and Bratislava, Slovakia.
